What you will be doing:
Do you have the drive to work with the public and coworkers, becoming an expert and training others in use of the Division’s Environmental Data Management System and other applications? At the Environmental Program Specialist 1 entry-level, you will triage initial public contacts and collaborate with Division staff from multiple programs while learning EDMS and other Division applications and processes. At the Environmental Program Specialist 2 level, you complete less common tasks without supervision, help create and present training materials, and learn to utilize the data in external databases. At the Environmental Program Specialist 3 level, you work independently and can solve complex data issues, minimize unintended consequences, and communicate the resolution to stakeholders.  Each level builds on the previous, and all levels provide opportunities to learn how other Division programs positively impact the environment.

The Water Information Program is committed to protecting the environment by constantly improving the electronic tools and training the Division uses to collect and analyze water discharge data. This position provides a positive permittee experience with outreach and helpdesk type assistance, and collaborates with other programs to streamline data input and analysis processes.

This position is being recruited in Juneau. This position works primarily in the office, but there are opportunities for flexibility in the work schedule, as well as telework after a probationary period.

  • Environmental Science - Knowledge of the interdisciplinary concepts, principles, theories, and methods of investigating the natural and physical environment, including examination of ecology, biology, physics, chemistry, plant science, zoology, mineralogy, oceanography, limnology, soil science, geology and physical geography, atmospheric, and other related sciences in the protection and improvement of the environment and its resources.
  • Scientific Research - Knowledge of the concepts, principles, and theories of scientific principles related to environmental, ecological, biological, or physical science and the methods, and processes used to conduct a systematic and objective inquiry; including study design, collection, analysis, and interpretation of data; and the reporting of results.
  • Critical Thinking - Analyzes and evaluates data to draw logical and well-reasoned conclusions.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

At the Environmental Program Specialist 3 Level:

Special Note:
The incumbent must become a registered user of ICIS-NPDES which requires extensive knowledgeof Federal reporting software.Knowledge ofthe ECHO systemis also requisite. Other required skills include those gained on the job in specific software (nVisage Reporting software, ICIS reports).

Environmental Program Specialist 1 (Range 14):
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the following competencies

Environmental Program Specialist 3 (Range 18):
Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with the following competencies
